Dr. Robert Ballard
Inspiring adventure speaker, deep sea explorer who discovered the RMS Titanic.
About
Best known for his 1985 discovery of the TITANIC, Dr. Robert Ballard has succeeded in tracking down numerous other significant shipwrecks, including the German battleship BISMARCK, the lost fleet of Guadalcanal, the U.S. aircraft carrier YORKTOWN (sunk in the World War II Battle of Midway), and John F. Kennedy boat, PT-109.
While those discoveries have captured the imagination of the public, Dr. Ballard believes his most important discoveries were of hydrothermal vents and black smokers in the Galapagos Rift and East Pacific Rise in 1977 and 1979 along with their exotic life forms living off the energy of the Earth through a process now called chemosynthesis.
In addition to being a National Geographic Society Explorer-In-Residence and a commissioner on the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy, Dr. Ballard is the president of the Ocean Exploration Trust (OET).
Ballard was born June 30, 1942, in Wichita, KS but moved to California at a very young age and grew up exploring the shore in San Diego. Dr. Ballard has a Ph.D. in marine geology and geophysics from the University of Rhode Island. He spent 30 years at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, where he helped develop telecommunications technology to create "tele-presence" for his education initiative, which allows hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren to accompany him from afar on undersea explorations around the globe each year. In 2001, he returned to the Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island where he is presently a tenured Professor of Oceanography and Director of the Center for Ocean Exploration.
Dr. Ballard has 21 honorary degrees and six military awards. He was also a Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve, serving in the Navy from 1967 to 1997. He received the National Geographic Society's prestigious Hubbard Medal in 1996 for extraordinary accomplishments in coaxing secrets from the world's oceans and engaging students in the wonder of science. In 2014, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Ballard has published numerous books, scientific papers, and a dozen articles in National Geographic magazine. Dr. Ballard also has been featured in several National Geographic television programs, including the record-breaking Secrets of the TITANIC.
His discoveries also include sunken remains of ships along ancient trade routes in the Mediterranean Sea; two ancient Phoenician ships off Israel, the oldest shipwrecks ever found in deep water; and four 1,500-year-old wooden ships, one almost perfectly preserved in the Black Sea. Dr. Ballard's Black Sea project seeks evidence of a great flood that may have struck the region thousands of years ago.
His 1997 best-selling book, Lost Liners, tells the story of the great transatlantic liners through memorable wrecks he has visited. Dr. Ballard was also a special advisor on Steven Spielberg's futuristic Sea Quest, DSV television show.
An explorer, discoverer and historian, Dr. Ballard's fascinating journeys can teach us a great deal about our past, and they have encouraged others to take tremendous strides in the survey of the undiscovered mysteries of the deep sea.

Robyn Benincasa
Adventure Racer, Firefighter, Speaker on Leadership & Teamwork
About
ROBYN BENINCASA - World Champion Adventure Racer | New York Times Bestselling Author | Leadership, Teamwork & Peak Performance Expert
Build Teams That Perform When It Matters Most
What separates teams that simply work together from teams that consistently win together?
Robyn Benincasa has spent more than two decades discovering the answer in some of the most demanding environments imaginable. A World Champion Adventure Racer, veteran firefighter, New York Times bestselling author and award-winning keynote speaker, Robyn has experienced firsthand what extraordinary teamwork looks like when the pressure is high, the obstacles are real and quitting isn’t an option.
Her fast-paced, highly visual presentations combine extraordinary stories, unforgettable video footage, humour and practical business strategies that show audiences how to collaborate more effectively, break down silos, embrace change and achieve more together.
Robyn doesn’t simply inspire people to become stronger individual performers. She shows them how to become better teammates.
WHY BOOK ROBYN BENINCASA?
Because most organizations don’t have a talent problem — they have a teamwork problem.
People may be smart, experienced and committed, but if departments operate in silos, people protect their own priorities or teams fail to communicate under pressure, performance suffers.
Robyn gives audiences a practical framework for changing that.
Drawing on her experience competing on world-championship adventure racing teams, Robyn demonstrates how groups of very different people can combine their strengths, trust one another and perform at a level none of them could achieve individually.
Her presentations are particularly powerful for organizations that want to:
- Strengthen teamwork and collaboration
- Break down organizational silos
- Build greater accountability
- Navigate change and uncertainty
- Develop more resilient leaders and employees
- Create a stronger sense of shared purpose
- Encourage innovation and calculated risk-taking
- Inspire people to raise both their individual and team performance
Robyn delivers much more than a motivational story. Audiences leave understanding what great teammates actually do differently — and how they can start doing it immediately.
WHAT MAKES ROBYN BENINCASA DIFFERENT?
She Has Lived the Lessons She Teaches
Robyn’s ideas weren’t developed in a classroom.
They were forged while racing for days with little sleep through some of the most difficult environments on earth, serving for more than 20 years as a firefighter and leading teams where collaboration, trust and decision-making can determine whether a team succeeds or fails.
The Presentation Is an Experience
Robyn combines storytelling, humour and dramatic multimedia from her adventure racing career to bring her ideas to life.
Audiences don’t just hear about teamwork — they see what extraordinary teamwork looks like under pressure.
Her Message Transfers Directly to Business
Adventure racing may be extreme, but the challenges are surprisingly familiar: limited resources, changing conditions, tight deadlines, unexpected obstacles and team members with very different strengths.
Robyn connects those experiences directly to the challenges organizations face every day.
She Customizes the Message
Robyn does extensive preparation to understand the organization, audience and objectives of each event. Her goal is to make the stories and strategies feel relevant to the people sitting in the room — not deliver the same generic keynote everywhere she goes.

-
Audiences leave motivated by the 100 unique characteristics and traits that are common among champions, told through poignant life lessons and inspirational stories.
-
Ross Bernstein is a best-selling author of nearly 50 sports books, and an award-winning business speaker.
-
Past clients include: Tempurpedic, Anytime Fitness, Chatham Steel, Milk Specialties Industries, Allianz Life Financial Services and Levi Strauss & Co.
Ever wonder why certain teams win consistently, whereas others come up short? Ross Bernstein explains why - in an engaging and visually entertaining style that's designed to improve your organization's productivity, morale and bottom-line profitability...
The best-selling author of nearly 50 sports books, Ross Bernstein is an award-winning business speaker who helps companies and organizations perform more like champions. Ross and his books have been featured on thousands of television and radio programs over the past 20 years, including CNN, MSNBC, CBS This Morning, FOX News, Bloomberg, ESPN, Sports Illustrated and the CBC, as well as in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, L.A. Times, USA Today, and Maxim Magazine.
Ross' signature program, The Champion's Code: Life Lessons of Ethics & Accountability from the Sports World to the Business World,
is based on more than six years of research that resulted in two critically acclaimed series of sports-business books. The first examines how and why certain teams win world championships; while the other chronicles the unwritten and unspoken rules in the world of sports, or codes
as they are known, which explores the fine line between cheating and gamesmanship - and the consequences involved when that line is crossed.
Ross interviewed more than 1,000 professional athletes and coaches for the six books and along the way he saw some fascinating patterns, metrics and trends develop among certain individuals who possessed a very unique DNA. For these unique individuals, or champions,
it wasn't always about winning, it was about following their moral compass in order to play the game the right way - with respect and integrity - in order to achieve success. In his presentation, Ross identifies upwards of 100 unique characteristics and traits that are common among champions, which he then ties into poignant life lessons and inspirational stories that relate back to his client's event theme and desired learner outcomes.
Based largely on the Good to Great
ideology of how the best companies are able to separate them- selves from the rest of the pack through dynamic leadership and extraordinary customer service, Ross' program reinforces the concept that individuals win games, but TEAMS win championships. Momentum, roles, buy-in, motivation, consistency, sacrifice, trust, chemistry, work-ethic, innovation, karma, and being humble - they're all a part of what it takes to become the best of the best - a champion both on and off the field.
So... who are the champions in your organization? Ross speaks about 100 dates a year and he'd love to customize a keynote (from one to six hours) for your next annual conference, corporate event, or sales meeting - his passion and energy is contagious and he'd be honored to be a member of YOUR team for the day!
About
To understand JJ Birden’s story, you must understand the odds.
Less than 6% of high school seniors play college football. Less than 1% make it to the NFL. The average career lasts under two years. The average player stands 6’2”, 245 pounds.
JJ Birden was 5’10”, 157 pounds.
Despite being the #1 high school wide receiver in Oregon, JJ received no Division I football scholarship offers. He earned a track scholarship to the University of Oregon, then walked onto the football team, starting at the bottom of the depth chart. Within 3 years, he worked his way into a starting role.
His journey was anything but smooth. Injuries and limited production followed, but his speed, preparation, and persistence earned him an invitation to the NFL Combine, where he stood out among the nation’s top prospects. He was selected in the 1988 NFL Draft, but what followed tested him even more.
In one of the toughest stretches of his career, JJ was released by four NFL teams in five days due to injuries and failed physicals. For most, that would have been the end. For JJ, it became a turning point.
He committed to mastering the details, outworking the competition, and finding ways to win. That mindset led to a nine-year NFL career, far exceeding the average, and competing successfully against players nearly 100 pounds heavier.
What separated JJ was not just talent, but preparation, discipline, and the ability to perform under pressure. He approached every day like game day.
Today, JJ Birden is a keynote speaker, performance coach, and author of Beat the Coverage: Six Strategic Steps to Win in Business and Life. He helps organizations build high-performance teams that execute under pressure and deliver results when it matters most.
Through his Beat the Coverage framework, JJ translates lessons from the NFL into practical strategies for leadership, execution, and resilience. His message equips leaders and teams to identify opportunities, prepare with purpose, and consistently perform at a high level.
JJ has worked with organizations such as Bank of America, Hershey’s, Aflac, Orangetheory Fitness, and O’Reilly Auto Parts.

She is also the author of Culture Works: How to Create Happiness in the Workplace. Prior to Choose People, Boesch was the CEO of Exodus Moving & Storage.
Kris’ journey into workplace culture started when she became the CEO of Exodus Moving & Storage.
Where many saw just another moving company Kris recognized quickly that if her employees felt good about coming to work, they would take better care of customers. In turn, this meant the financial health of the company would prosper.
The catch was the deck was stacked against her. The company was struggling to cover payroll. Turnover was high and culture toxicity even higher. And on top of all of that she didn’t have industry experience nor earned respect to demand behavioral changes. In short, the common approach of a boss-centric leadership style wasn’t going to cut it. She knew she was going to have to earn every inch of authority and return every penny of respect she gained to breakthrough.
So, she went to work to find another way, a way that put the focus on the only real leverage she had – her team.
She discovered that when people feel good about coming to work, they show up not only as better workers but as better people for everyone in their lives. Step-by-step she cultivated ways to create a culture where her team did feel good about coming to work.
Under her leadership Exodus became the largest mover in Northern Colorado with a turnover rate of 40% less than the industry average and a bottom line twice that same average.
But most notable of all – the workplace experience of her team went from being one of misery to one of joy.
From there, Kris’ life work truly began.
Kris has been featured as a workplace culture expert in Inc., Entrepreneur and Forbes and was recently named one of the “Top 100 Leadership Speakers” in Inc. Kris's past clients include Petsmart, SE Johnson, SHRM, PMI, IPMA and Magnolia.

Michael "Pinball" Clemons won the Grey Cup in 1991, 1996, and 1997 with the Argonauts, and was honored with the CFL’s “most outstanding player” award in 1990, before becoming Head Coach of the Toronto Argonauts.
-
Founder of the Pinball Clemons Foundation, a non-profit organization responsible for the construction of a hospital in Uganda, over 200 schools in developing countries, two orphanages in Haiti, and locally awarded more than 200 scholarships.

"Pinball" has received numerous awards including the CFL Man-of-the-Year award, the John Candy Memorial Trophy, an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D) degree from York University, Doctor of Humane Letters from the College of William and Mary, the prestigious Order of Ontario in recognition of his dedication and work with charities throughout Ontario and across Canada and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Clemons joined the National Football League in 1987, and CFL’s Toronto Argonauts in 1989. He was nicknamed “Pinball” because of his running style — his diminutive size and extraordinary balance allowed him to “bounce” between defensive players, drawing comparisons to a pinball machine. Clemons won the Grey Cup in 1991, 1996, and 1997 with the Argonauts, and was honored with the CFL’s “most outstanding player” award in 1990, after setting the single season record for all-purpose yards. In 2007, Clemons stepped down as head coach to become the chief executive officer, and in 2009, he was appointed as the vice-chair of the team. In 2019, Clemons was named the 20th general manager of the Toronto Argonauts.

- Have an increased impact over time, as viewers re-watch, discuss and connect over social media and other channels
And, most importantly: offer the ability for inspiring and impactful presentations to connect in a one-on-one way, directly to the attendee.
WHO is your audience?
Who are your virtual event attendees? Are they across a specific group within your organization, or are you serving clients across a wide range of levels? Determining who you are speaking to will help you determine a format for your event that will captivate your audience.
WHAT is your key message?
Are you focusing on change? Innovation? Leadership?
Creating a single focus or mission will allow you to hone in on the type of speaker(s) you need to engage your audience and help event producers to format the event into a dynamic program that balances inspiration with information and audience interaction.
WHAT type of event suits your audience?
- Virtual Conference
- Webinar
- Hybrid Event
Virtual event technology has come a long way over the last few months, offering a huge range of different options from pre-recorded webinars, to multi-day virtual conferences, to hybrid events with some attendees in the audience while the event is live streamed.
OUR ADVICE
A COMBINATION of live and pre-recorded elements will allow your virtual event to run smoothly and stay on time.
Many of our clients are also opting for multi-day virtual conferences with shorter segments spaced over a few days.
This allows some flexibility for attendees in different time zones and accommodates different teleworking situations for attendees, allowing them to tune in when it is convenient.
WHERE? It’s all about Tech.
Virtual meeting technology has exploded over the last few months as teleworking became the norm.
Consider your needs:
- Interactive elements like breakout rooms, polls & Q&A
- Seamless blend of live & pre-recorded elements
- Ability to replay segments
- Live tech support
If you plan for rain, it’s likely the sun will shine…
Tech isn’t perfect so don’t forget to test, rehearse and have a back up plan ready to go for your virtual event.
Pro Tip: Think of a virtual presentation like a podcast. Viewers can view the content multiple times and refer back to it.
WHEN? A Date… or Dates?
As we have all noticed, our attention spans for meeting in real life versus meeting online are a lot longer.
When deciding on a date, consider spreading your virtual event out over a few days, with a variety of speakers, interactive elements and information.
The benefits of a multi-day format:
- Viewers watch content fresh for a short period every day
- Allows attendees in different time zones to stay on top of the content
- Attendees can review & re-engage with content
Virtual Event Checklist:
Is your event?
- Interactive?
- Informative?
- Able to be rewatched?
WHY? Pandemic 2020
Just because you are online instead of in person, it doesn’t mean you are missing out on connection.
Using the technology that we have become so accustomed to over the last few months, our keynote speakers have the ability to connect to your viewers one-on-one, in a way that was impossible in live events.
FIND YOUR WHY…
What do you want the audience to leave thinking at the end of the presentation?
Apply this question to all the presentations and segments in your event to create a cohesive, impactful virtual event.
HOW? Virtual Event Checklist
To wrap it all up
- TECH: Find the right tech platform & don’t forget to test drive before your event
- AGENDA: Use a mix of live and pre-recorded segments, mixed with interactive elements, to ensure a smooth flow of events & audience engagement
- ANTICIPATION: Build up your event with emails, teasers and sneak peeks into what content will be offered
- NETWORKING: Create and encourage online chat functions, an event specific hashtag or even a dedicated event page to allow attendees to network virtually. Maximize the networking opportunities offered by your tech platform.
- EXTEND YOUR IMPACT: A dedicated social media page is a great place for attendees to connect after an event to discuss ideas and implement some of the learnings from the event.
Offer a password protected, limited time recording of keynote presentations to continue the conversation long after the virtual event has ended.
Continue the conversation with post-event touch points like emails or questions based on the key presentations.
